Vinyl & Laminate Flooring

Vinyl and laminate are two distinct product categories that are often considered together. Both are installed by AJ Hardwood Flooring for homes and commercial interiors.

Bright modern hallway with wood-look plank flooring and clean white baseboards

Overview

Vinyl flooring is made from synthetic layers and is frequently chosen for kitchens, basements, laundry areas and high-traffic spaces. Laminate uses a printed decorative layer over a composite core and is often selected for its appearance and durability at a different price point.

The installed result still comes down to craftsmanship: a flat, prepared subfloor, a considered plank layout, tight transitions, and clean baseboard and shoemoulding work at the perimeter.

What to consider

  • Vinyl and laminate are different materials — we explain the practical differences for your space rather than pushing one option.
  • Subfloor flatness and moisture conditions are reviewed before installation.
  • Doorways, thresholds and level changes are planned so transitions look intentional.

Benefits

  • Practical surfaces for busy rooms and rental or commercial spaces
  • Wide range of appearances, including wood-look planks
  • Installed with planned transitions and clean perimeter finishing
  • Single team for flooring, trim and stair work

Vinyl & Laminate questions

Is vinyl flooring the same as laminate?
No. Vinyl is built from synthetic layers, while laminate uses a printed decorative layer over a composite core. They can look similar once installed but behave differently, so we review which is a better fit for your room during the estimate.
Can vinyl or laminate be installed in a basement?
These products are often considered for below-grade rooms, but suitability depends on the specific space and subfloor conditions, which we assess before recommending anything.
Do you install baseboards afterwards?
Yes. Baseboard and shoemoulding installation is one of our services and is commonly completed as part of a flooring project.
